1) WHAT IS AN ASSESSMENT COMMITTEE?
An Assessment Committee has two basic tasks:
A) To gather necessary present and projected data to have the information needed to make both short term and long term suggestions to best fill the needs of the parish.
B) To make a range of short term and long term suggestions to meet present and future needs of the parish.
2) WHO MAKES UP THE ASSESSMENT COMMITTEE?
The Assessment Committee is made up of nine to fifteen parishioners
who have been recommended by the Parish Pastoral Council, Finance Council,
respected parishioners, and parish staff. Those parishioners were
chosen due to their various types of work and parish experience.
3) WHAT IS THE TIME LINE FOR THE ASSESSMENT COMMITTEE?
The time line will be largely based on how often the committee meets, and how information is shared.
Information gathering and short term solutions aspects of the committee should hopefully be finished by May or August, 2000.
Long term suggestions should hopefully be finished by no later
than May 2001.
4) HOW IS THE COMMITTEE TO BE ORGANIZED?
A chairperson is to be nominated and elected at our first gathering. Subcommittees for information gathering should also be established at the first meeting. Further needs of the committee can then be addressed at the following meetings.
5) DO THE SUGGESTIONS OF THE COMMITTEE HAVE ANY BINDING FORCE FOR PRESENT OR FUTURE PASTORS?
In a word "NO", but suggestions made by the assessment committee should be given very serious weight in planning for the future of the parish.
6) WHAT SHOULD I DO AS A MEMBER OF THE COMMITTEE?
A) Pray for humility, guidance, and openness
B) Be willing to share my ideas and perceptions
C) Be willing to listen and respect others ideas and perceptions.
D) Be willing to accept suggestions and decisions which may
not incorporate all of my ideas.
E) Be willing to support this committee and its suggestions
to the parish.
