Among our top priorities of Saint Henry parish community is the opportunity and obligation to assist parents in passing on our Catholic heritage to our youth. Our Religious Education Program is designed to offer Catholic youths not only the basics of the Catholic faith, but to encourage Christian fellowship, stewardship, and community involvement. Of course, the parish can only supplement what is offered at home, so we strongly encourage all families to regularly participate in our liturgies and ongoing educational and formation opportunities.
Funding of the Religious Education program is shared by the family and the entire parish. In order to keep tuition low, there is a special collection each year for the Religious Education Program.
Besides our own parish Religious Education Program, we strongly encourage families to send their children to our local Catholic Schools by offering partial tuition subsidies to active registered contributing parish families.
Weekly classes for these students are only the first part of the journey. The Sacraments of Penance and First Communion normally take place in the 2nd grade. The parish also sponsors a Halloween Carnival, Christmas Program, Mardi Gras festival, Vacation Bible School, and various movie and fun days throughout the year to help them be a part of the broader parish community. There are also stewardship programs and grocery drives to teach students the important aspects of giving to Church and to care for the needy.
Starting with weekly Religious Education classes, our Jr. High program concentrates on a two year preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. These years emphasize the Precepts of the Church and basic Catholic teachings. Using service projects, Liturgical participation, Stewardship training, and retreats and outings -- our Jr. High program and Jr. CYO is meant to encourage youth to recognize that the Confirmation as a Sacrament of Initiation is a beginning of awareness of the Christian lifestyle and not an end to religious formation.
