Forrest Overstreet - no new information was given.Demographic Sub-CommitteeDiscussion was had about the physical plant of St. Henry's, what land we own and where we can expand.
Discussion held on alternate nights for Religious Education, other possible locations for class.
Bethanie Penning presented the statistics from the parish survey conducted over a year and a half ago. Discussion of a new survey to all parishioners was had. By the next meeting we will have a draft of the questions to include on the new survey which will be mailed to all parishioners.Discussion of the various parts of the survey, what to include and not to include, age breakdown, raw data from Synod surveys, total number of Catholics, looking to the future. Contact our DREÆs (Faye Dismukes and Melanie Broussard) for their input on what the future of our religious education program will be.
Jerry Mambretti discussed the TWD/ETRPG Population Projections from November 1999 which was attached to the handout. This is an estimation of where the city of Bridge City and Orange County will be and what our water consumption will be.
Mission Statement
Everett Langford stated that he had requested the mission statement from his former parish and he had not yet received it.Parish ComparisonJerry Mambretti offered a draft of a mission statement incorporating the sacramental, formation, and social needs to be met.
Rev. Jim stated that we needed a mission statement for the assessment committee and then to possibly look to one for the parish as a whole.
Rev. Jim will put the diocesan mission statement on the web page.
Each member of the committee needs to come up with a mission statement on their own and then we will incorporate one for the committee.
Diane Findley spoke with the Diocese of Beaumont. They are to publish a Catholic Directory which lists all of the parishes in the diocese with data on each one. It should be ready in four to six weeks. She will continue to call Diocese on availability.Statistics: There are 582,000 people living in the Diocese of Beaumont and 88,625 Catholics.
Ideas discussed included a parish directory which Rev. Jim said is on the agenda for the year 2001. Discussion of the various parishes and what they offer their parishoners.
St. Charles - Ministry Fair - each ministry within the parish sets up a table in the parish hall and after the masses all parishoners are encouraged to drop by and pick up literature and meet the members of the various committees. Also, publishing the minutes of the Parish Council meeting in the bulletin. Also, they have a mass on the first Monday of every month for the men of the parish and then they have a fellowship gathering in the parish hall afterwards.
St. Francis of Assisi - they have a childrenÆs bulletin in addition to the main bulletin. The priest sets aside a short portion of time during the homily to address the children.
Contact other parishes and possible committee members to compare parish to parish and how they utilize their facilities, compare religious education programs, etc.
Rev. Jim to invite St. Jude and St. Francis of Assisi parish assessment committee members to our next meeting on April 2, 2000. Rev. Jim to send a letter
Miscellaneous
Larry Buckman and Gina Mannino have offered their assistance and services on any project that our committee needs then on.
